A private speech pathology clinic that’s with you on the journey ahead.

Hi! I’m Marnie - Nice to meet you!

Meet Marnie Paul - founder of Baseline Speech & Language Services

Since graduating from the University of Alberta’s Master of Science program in Speech-Language Pathology in 2011, I have had the pleasure of working with kids 0-18 in both urban and rural settings, across many settings including schools, Health Centres and in people’s homes. I love working with children who are hard to understand, or who have less words than their friends. Motor speech and expressive language stimulation are my passions!

I received my Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology, a Master of Science in Linguistics and a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in Psychology. I also had the privilege of studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with the Linguistics Society of America for a summer in between degrees. More importantly, I am a proud mother of two, and they taught me the importance of functional practice (because life is chaos!) and the power of play.

Clinically, here is a little bit about myself:

  • Completed clinical training in the Lidcombe Program.

  • Certified in It Takes Two to Talk by Hanen.

  • Completed the Ultimate Play Based SLP course.

  • Certificate of attendance received for Modified Barium Swallow - Impairment Profile as presented by Bonnie Martin-Harris.

  • Extensive experience with motor speech disorders, influenced by motor speech principles taught by Dr. Megan Hodge, University of Alberta. Trained in Let’s Start Talking.

  • Advanced knowledge of fluency skills for the treatment of persistent stuttering.

  • Developed and administered multiple parent education groups targeting expressive language growth during my time at the Edmonton Down syndrome Society, all built around Hanen® principles.

  • Experience with videoconferencing as a method of service delivery.

  • Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC) member.

  • Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA) member.

Hi there - I’m Lauren!

I am the co—owner of Baseline! Marnie and I met while working together as rural SLPs. I have since worked with children aged 0-18 in both the public and private sectors in Edmonton for over 10 years now! I have a passion for motor-speech (Childhood Apraxia of Speech), Fluency (Stuttering) and early language development. As a mom of 3 young children, I understand the importance of play in children’s daily lives and love that I get to “play” at work!

I have had the pleasure of consulting in family homes through the Early Intervention Program (EIP), as well as in daycare settings and school classrooms. I have also had the privilege of presenting many workshops at daycare and day-home conferences and meetings.

In addition to my Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology, I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Sociology.

A little bit about my clinical accomplishments:

  • Completed clinical training on the Lidcombe Program.

  • Certified in It Takes Two to Talk by Hanen.

  • Completed the Ultimate Play Based SLP course.

  • PROMPT INTRO and PROMPT II Training by the PROMPT Institute.

  • Trained in Let’s Start Talking with extensive experience with motor speech disorders, influenced by motor speech principles taught by Dr. Megan Hodge, University of Alberta.

  • Keeping it fun! Speech is hard work, I like to make it fun for all of our clients!

“This business and this field is personal to me. I am a proud mother of two young children myself. They teach me more about development, and how to provide true support to families, than my eight years of post secondary education ever has.” - Marnie
